Habitat and Distribution

It shelters in excavated burrows under rocks, fallen timber or in dead leaf litter.

About the animal:

  • It has five to seven bands of markings on the neck, body and tail which vary in colour from brown to pale yellow;
  • It has a relatively small head, a strong body and shortish tail;
  • Grows to about 30 to 40cm;
  • When harassed, it flattens its body, opens its mouth to display a pink interior with large blue tongue and hisses as it inflates and deflates rapidly.

What they eat?

Feeds on berries, fruit, flowers and insects.
