Habitat and Distribution

This is the most common dangerous snake in the Perth area. Found in a variety of habitats but prefers sandy location.

About the animal:

  • Can grow to more than 2m long;
  • A large slender to moderately stout snake, ranging from dark brown, yellow, olive green or black with a whitish belly;
  • Adult dugites are usually quick to avoid people but will bite if trodden, harassed, cornered or handled;
  • An alert fast moving diurnal snake.

What they eat?

Dugite eats mice, lizards, snakes and birds.
