Habitat and Distribution

Found thoughout Australia except the wetter parts of the south east coast.

About the animal:

  • Variable colour from light yellow to almost black with numerous small scattered lighter and darker markings;
  • There is normally a black temporal stripe that is edged with white or cream. The last few centimetres of the tail is cream or yellow;
  • Can grow up to 1.6m in length;
  • A ground dwelling lizard found in a variety of habitats, digging its own burrow or using other animals, hollow logs or dense litter;

What they eat?

Feeds on insects, small animals, birds, reptiles and carrion.
