Habitat and Distribution

It is the best known lizard in southern Australia. It shelters beneath dead vegetation, rubbish and in burrows.

About the animal:

  • A large skink with broad triangular head and short blunt tail;
  • Colour varies with back and tails with spots or streaks;
  • They grow to about 30cm long;
  • It will attempt to deter harassment with mouth agape,hissing and displaying the large blue tongue;
  • It has a powerful jaw with which it can inflict a painful bite.

What they eat?

Omnivorous, feeding on a wide rage of invertebrates, flowers and fruits.
